The Wheatfield (Agincourt), 1989-2019
In a special video interview, Jim Dine takes us through the creation of The Wheatfield (Agincourt). On view in the Parrish Museum’s inaugural sculpture exhibition, Field of Dreams, Dine’s Wheatfield is joined by works in sculpture and installation by Theaster Gates and Jaume Plensa.
Dine’s monumental assemblage, The Wheatfield (Agincourt), was first conceived in 1989 and reworked in 2019. This sculpture expresses a life’s work of collected signs and symbols; tools, branches, parrots, Venuses, Pinocchios, apes and cats, and one large skull cover the axle of an enormous piece of farm equipment. The objects included in this work reference many of the themes that have persisted in Dine’s imagery throughout his practice, offering a visual timeline of the artist’s most celebrated motifs.
