Screening at Gene Siskel Film Center on Thursday, October 13, at 6 PM CDT, Jaume Plensa: Can You Hear Me? is a full-length documentary directed by Pedro Ballesteros that examines the life and practice of the internationally renowned sculptor.

Following the artist over the course of a year, the film presents Plensa’s story across seven chapters, moving between moments from the studio and the production of some of Plensa’s most ambitious public projects. The documentary spans the genesis and construction of a major project for the lobby of a New York skyscraper, the preparations for Plensa's retrospective at MACBA in Barcelona, the inauguration of a major open-air exhibition in Stockholm, the placement of large sculptures in Madrid and the island of Porqueroles, and recent large-scale installations at Rockefeller Center and Hudson Yards in New York.

Bearing unique witness to the artist's practice, the documentary at once introduces us to the artist's personality, process, and inner philosophies as he travels of to some of his most representative public sculptures, sited all over the world including Spain, France, Sweden, the US, Canada, and Japan. Through his own narrations, Plensa demonstrates a lifelong commitment to and passion for a method of art-making which, as he describes it, “has the ability to illuminate us.”
