The program will reflect on Abakanowicz’s life and work as a pioneering sculptor and fiber artist whose singular cultural impact has influenced generations of artists.

Patryk P. Tomaszewski, PhD  is a New York–based historian of art and visual culture specializing in twentieth-century Central and Eastern Europe. His research is focused on the relationship between cultural production and state socialism in Poland during the early decades of the Cold War. Tomaszewski has written and presented on artists including Henryk Stażewski, Wojciech Fangor, Tadeusz Kantor, and El Lissitzky, and his article on touring exhibitions in early Stalinist Poland appeared recently in Curator: The Museum Journal. He teaches art history at Fordham University and holds a PhD from the CUNY Graduate Center and an M.A. from the Institute of Fine Arts, NYU.
