GRAY is pleased to participate in EXPO Chicago 2026’s Embodiment section with works by Candida Alvarez, McArthur Binion, Torkwase Dyson, Theaster Gates, Rashid Johnson, and Richard Hunt. Curated by Dr. Louise Bernard, Founding Director of the Obama Presidential Center Museum, Embodiment is part of an expanded partnership with the forthcoming Obama Presidential Center that is inspired by the architecture and commissioned artists of the Obama Presidential Center, ahead of its anticipated opening in June 2026.
GRAY’s presentation will feature a focused selection of painting, collage, and sculpture by Torkwase Dyson. Combining richly layered pours, expressive mark-making, and geometric abstraction, Dyson examines the continuity between ecology, infrastructure, and architecture, probing how individuals—particularly Black and Brown people—negotiate and transform systems of spatial order. In 2026 Dyson will debut a commissioned work for the 59th Carnegie International, a new installation for the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia curated by the late Koyo Kouoh, and a solo exhibition at Kunsthaus Bregenz, Austria.
