Gray Gallery Chicago |
Founded in Chicago in 1963 and now located both in Chicago and New York,
Richard Gray Gallery is one of the leading dealers in modern and
contemporary American and European art, with museum as well as private
clients worldwide. Offering artworks of exceedingly high quality as well as
expert counsel in all areas of the field is almost an obsession. The
gallery has a reputation for excellence, integrity and discretion that it
continues to earn by providing a high level of service to understandably
demanding clients. Collecting art remains a field where the myriad players
share a deep appreciation for the profound role that art plays in our
culture. This is paramount. The business of art, while founded upon the
same principle, is more and more coming to resemble a truly 'big' business
with the breathtaking values placed on fine art. While most galleries focus
primarily upon artist representation and promotion, Richard Gray Gallery is
collector oriented. This means the gallery will assess quality and
authenticity, evaluate, exhibit, care for, buy and sell art principally for
the benefit of the collector. We believe this is a highly meaningful
distinction. Member of the Art Dealer's Association of America and
Confederacion International des Negociants en Art. Richard Gray Gallery
also exhibits at Art: Basel, Art: Basel/Miami, TEFAF Maastricht and The Art
Show/New York.

We
as a gallery are moving forward into the twenty-first century by
continuing to bring first rate works of art by renowned artists
into our gallery and onto the walls of our clients. My years in
the arts have allowed me to advise some very astute and discerning
collectors and it is a responsibility that I take very seriously.

I
am also a collector myself and therefore have a keen appreciation
for the thrill of connecting with a work of art. It is a passion
for art combined with a sense of duty to collectors who seek our
counsel, which drives me to identify and assemble exciting works
to share with our clients. - Paul Gray

Many apprehensions about collecting expensive
works of art arise from questions of authenticity. Richard Gray
Gallery is able to stand behind the works of art that we handle
through extensive research and knowledge of our artists and their
artwork, acquired from our 45 years in the field. This is research
and knowledge that we are happy to share with our clients.

Richard
Gray first opened the Chicago gallery in the fall of 1963, on Ontario
Street. There were few galleries in Chicago in the 1960s,
but he was determined to turn his passion for collecting into a
career working with the things that gave him so much personal pleasure.
Richard Gray Gallery joined in establishing a trend that would eventually
result in an active and diverse gallery scene in Chicago. In the
earlier years the gallery included print and antiquities departments
along with a focus on younger artists, but ultimately the gallery
has become best known for its concentration and excellence in the
area of Modern and Contemporary Masters. Richard Gray has developed
a reputation as a well-respected authority, known internationally
for his knowledge, expertise and integrity. (more)
